Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited by his Canadian counterpart Mark Gurney to attend the G7 Summit being held in Alberta's Kananaskis.

"Glad to receive a call from Prime Minister Mark Carny of Canada. Congratulated him on his recent election victory and thanked him for the invitation to the G7 Summit in Kananaskis later this month," PM Modi said in a post on X.

"As vibrant democracies bound by deep people-to-people ties, India and Canada will work together with renewed vigour, guided by mutual respect and shared interests. Look forward to our meeting at the Summit," he added.

"Prime Minister Carney extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to attend Canada’s 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta. Prime Minister Carney and Prime Minister Modi agreed to remain in contact and looked forward to meeting at the G7 Leaders’ Summit later this month," the Canadian Prime Minister's Office said in a readout of the call.

The 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit will be held in Kananaskis, Alberta, from 15 to 17 June.

The invite to Prime Minister Modi for the G7 Summit comes days after Congress took a dig at him for an alleged lack of invite.

"The tradition of inviting Indian PMs continued after 2014. But now, for the first time in 6 years, Vishwaguru will not be in attendance at the Canada summit. Whatever spin may be given, the fact remains that this is yet another big diplomatic bungle...," Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had said in a post on X on 3 June.
