Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Saturday (31 May) said that nearly 15 per cent of operational time during Operation Sindoor was spent countering disinformation and fake narratives, describing the four-day confrontation with Pakistan as a “non-contact and multi-domain” conflict that "exemplifies the future of warfare".
According to a TOI report, speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore and in subsequent interviews, Gen Chauhan stated, “During the crisis, India retained full operational clarity and autonomy, regardless of broader geopolitical currents.”
He noted that India did not observe “any unusual activity” along the 3,488 km Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, despite Islamabad’s close alliance with Beijing.
While acknowledging that Pakistan may have used Chinese commercial satellite imagery, he said, “There is no proof of real-time targeting support” from Beijing during the hostilities.
Gen Chauhan added that around 80 per cent of Pakistan’s recent military procurements had come from China, implying some degree of support from original equipment manufacturers.
In contrast, India relied on indigenous weaponry, such as the Akash missile system.
He also emphasised India’s political messaging. “India has drawn a new redline against terrorism and proxy war emanating from Pakistan, and hopefully our adversary will learn lessons from Operation Sindoor.”
On the information warfare front, Gen Chauhan highlighted India’s reliance on fact-based communication, even at the cost of slower responses. He said two women officers served as spokespersons initially, with DGMOs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force briefing media only after 10 May.
Cyber operations were limited, with India’s air-gapped systems unaffected. Public platforms experienced minor disruptions, but operational capabilities remained intact.
