After facing a setback in 2019, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) has improved its performance in the 2024 Haryana assembly elections.
The Abhay Chautala-led party not only increased its seat tally from one to two but also increased its vote share from 2.44 per cent to 4.16 per cent.
The INLD contested the election in alliance with the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party. INLD contested 53 seats, while the BSP contested 37. The BSP, however, could not win any seats.
From the INLD, Aditya Devilal won from Dabwali, a constituency that remained an INLD bastion for two decades, but the party lost it in 2019 to Congress.
Another seat was won in Rania by Arjun Chautala. Rania was formed after the 2008 delimitation and won by the INLD in 2009 and 2014 but lost in 2019.
Notably, Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) had split from INLD before the 2019 assembly election and secured 10 seats at that time.
However, the JJP could not win any seat this time. Its vote share also plummeted from 14.8 per cent to 0.9 per cent and Dushyant Chautala came fifth.
This means that the INLD was able to win back some of its traditional vote bank while the JJP has been wiped out for allying with the BJP in 2019.
