Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at the opposition while campaigning for BJP in Rajasthan's Kotputli on Tuesday (2 April) and alleged that Congress is at the "root of the country's all diseases."

"You see any big problem of the country, you will find Congress at its root. The country was poor for decades, it had to ask other countries for its needs, all because of Congress," the PM alleged.

He said that during Congress rule, India was recognised as the biggest weapon importer, while under the BJP rule, India is being recognised as a weapon exporter, citing Rs 21,000 crore of defence exports.

The PM responded to family-led parties' attacks on Modi not having a family and questioned, "Does having a family give you license to do corruption?", reiterating that countrymen are his family members.

Modi highlighted that Kotputli-Baroda Mev highway now connects the city to the Delhi-Mumbai expressway and that the East Rajasthan Canal Project was kept pending by Congress for decades.

The PM added, "I never claimed that I have done everything. But it is also true that the work which could not be completed in five to six decades after the independence was completed by us."

He pointed out the difference in the pace of work in the electrification of railway lines and bringing people out of poverty. He highlighted the abrogation of Article 370 and the construction of Ram Mandir.
