Congress candidate from Indore for the Lok Sabha elections, Akshay Kanti Bam withdrew his nomination on Monday (29 April). Last month, he thanked the Congress leadership for giving him the opportunity.
Bam was accompanied by Indore-2 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ramesh Mandola when he reached the Collector's office to withdraw his nomination. Soon BJP leader leader Kailash Vijayvargiya posted a selfie with him.
Vijaywargiya wrote, "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president JP Nadda, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and state BJP president VD Sharma, I welcome Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Indore Akshay Kanti Bam into BJP."
Bam was earlier displeased with the Congress leadership over not receiving a ticket for the 2023 MP Assembly elections when he wanted to contest from Indore-4.
BJP has fielded its incumbent Indore MP Shankar Lalwani for the elections scheduled for 13 May in the fourth phase of elections. Today was the last day of nomination withdrawal.
This comes after the BJP candidate from Surat, Mukesh Dalal was elected unopposed after Congress' candidate Nilesh Kumbhani's nomination was canceled and other candidates withdrew.
