Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (28 September) labelled Congress as the most "deceitful and dishonest" party in the country.

Addressing a rally in Haryana's Hisar, PM Modi warned the voters in the poll-bound state that Congress had misled the people of neighbouring Himachal Pradesh with false promises during the elections and the hill state is now facing financial woes.

"Congress is the most deceitful and dishonest party in the country. You can see the condition of Himachal Pradesh in the neighbourhood," he said.

"During the elections, they told the people of Himachal numerous lies that you can't even imagine. Now that they are in power there, the Congress has distanced itself from its promises. The public is asking Congress, 'What happened to your promise?' while Congress is questioning the public, 'Who are you?'," PM Modi alleged.

Attacking Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, PM Modi said, "The royal family of Delhi (referring to Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra) deceived the people of Himachal with falsehoods".

"Today, the Himachal government lacks the budget even to pay employees their salaries and Dearness Allowance," he said.

PM Modi said that wherever the Congress is in power, there can never be stability.

"How can a party that cannot bring unity among its leaders bring stability to the state?" PM Modi asked.

The voting for the Haryana Assembly elections is scheduled to be held on 5 October.
