Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will get Z plus security cover after the threat perception report of Central Intelligence agencies, news agency ANI reported.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will provide him with the security cover.
The Z plus security is the highest level of protection, after the SPG cover, the government provides to an individual who has a high level of threat to their life.
The security detail under the Z plus category includes 55 personnel, along with CRPF commandoes who guard the individual round the clock. This cover also includes a bulletproof vehicle and escort in three shifts.
VIP security in India is classified into four levels: Z plus, Z, Y, and X, based on the level of threat as assessed by the Intelligence Bureau.
Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, is currently under Z plus security protection.
Until 2019, the Gandhi family was under the protection of the Special Protection Group (SPG), but their security level was later reduced to Z plus.
The SPG, an elite security force, is dedicated to the safety of the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers, and their immediate families.
Established following the assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984, the SPG comprises around 3,000 personnel.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
