In a bid to enforce law and order, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami led Uttarakhand government has initiated a mass crackdown on illegally run madrasas in the state, reported ANI.
Following instructions from the Chief Minister, over 52 unregistered madrasas have been sealed in just 15 days, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) announced in an official statement.
On Monday (10 March) alone, the authorities shut down 12 illegal madrasas in Vikasnagar in Dehradun district and 9 in Khatima.
This came after a series of actions where 31 such religious institutions operating without authorisation were closed down in different districts.
The CMO says that the move is in relation to the long-standing spread of illegal madrasas in areas such as Pachhwadun, where there had been complaints about efforts towards creating population imbalance in the name of religion.
The statement also said that tampering with the basic form of the state will not be tolerated at any cost.
Strict action will be taken against anyone who breaks the law or is involved in illegal activities.
The crackdown is being seen as part of CM Dhami’s larger law and order efforts to tackle the demographic shift in the state.
