Crimes Against Women Will Not Be Tolerated, No Matter Who The Perpetrator Is: PM Modi

Amid rising crimes against women in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (25 August) said assured that those committing such "unpardonable" offences should "not be spared."

Speaking at the Lakhpati Didi event in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon, PM Modi addressed the recent nationwide outrage over cases like the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder, the Badlapur school sex abuse case, and the Assam gangrape.

He said that those found guilty must face strict punishment without exception, regardless of their status or connections. Fur

"I would like to reiterate to every political party and every state govt that crimes against women are unpardonable. The guilty should not be spared, no matter who he is," PM Modi said.

He added people helping those guilty of crimes against women should not be spared either.

"Negligence at any level be it hospital, school, office or policy system should be taken to task," he said.

"It is society and the government's duty to uphold the safety and dignity of women... We are strengthening and making stricter laws for criminals who commit atrocities against women," the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister emphasised the government's commitment to strengthening legal frameworks and enforcement mechanisms, including the introduction of amendments to existing laws and the creation of new systems to make justice more accessible to victims.

“Earlier, there were complaints that FIRs were not filed. We brought the BNS [Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita] and made a lot of amendments,” he said.

“If a woman does not want to go to the police station, she can file an e-FIR. Nobody can change or tamper with an e-FIR," the Prime Minister added, India Today reported.
