Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), led by GMR AERO, has announced that the newly upgraded Terminal 2 at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport will reopen on 26 October, aligning with the start of the winter schedule.
The revamp aims to equip the terminal to handle rising passenger volumes while ensuring a smoother, faster, and more comfortable journey. From the night of 25–26 October, around 120 daily domestic flights operated by Air India and IndiGo will shift to the upgraded facility.
Highlighting the transformation, CEO-DIAL Videh Kumar Jaipuriar remarked, “Terminal 2 is not just a facility upgrade—it’s a complete reimagination of the passenger journey. With innovative technologies like the Self Baggage Drop and autonomous docking aerobridges, we are empowering travellers, optimising efficiency, and preparing IGI Airport for the future of aviation.”
Among its standout features, the terminal introduces India’s first autonomous-docking Passenger Boarding Bridges, procured from South Korea.
These state-of-the-art bridges enhance accessibility with elevated ramps, safer boarding with side cushions, and modernised operator cabins.
Equally, the Self Baggage Drop facility promises to cut waiting times dramatically by allowing travellers to tag and drop their luggage independently.
Passengers will also notice a refreshed design marked by skylit ceilings, advanced flooring, and enhanced road connectivity. Inside, upgraded HVAC systems, improved fire safety measures, and a strengthened power supply network ensure both safety and comfort.
A new high-resolution Flight Information Display System and accessible signage have also been installed for better wayfinding, particularly for persons with reduced mobility.
Beyond the terminal building, extensive refurbishments to the apron and airside areas, both in service for over 40 years will ensure efficient aircraft operations as traffic continues to grow.
