Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to revolutionise city transport with its Phase 5 project, India Today reported.

One of the most important features of this project is the 21 km corridor from Mayur Vihar Phase 3 to Loni Border that will reduce travel time by far for thousands of commuters traveling to and from East Delhi and surrounding areas.

At present, people in this area have to depend on far-off stations like Ashok Nagar, Mayur Vihar Extension, and Noida Sector 15.The new corridor will reduce travel time and cut down on traffic congestion, providing a direct and efficient mode of transit.

The project will be implemented in two phases:

  • Phase 5(A): Will deal with finishing the last 15.8 km of Phase 4 with corridors like Indraprastha to Central Vista, Aerocity to Airport Terminal 1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.

  • Phase 5(B): Will encompass the development of 15 new corridors, which include the Mayur Vihar Phase 3-Loni Border section. DMRC is revising a previous 2014 DPR that envisioned a light metro between Mayur Vihar Phase 3 and Shastri Park and expanding it to Loni Border.

Phase 5 will have 128 new metro stations—79 elevated and 49 underground for smooth last-mile connectivity. Among the important proposed corridors are:

  • Raja Nahar Singh to Palwal (24 km)

  • Indraprastha to RK Puram (9.5 km)

  • Noida Electronic City to Sahibabad (5.1 km)

  • Najafgarh to Nangloi (13 km)

  • Dwarka Sector 21 to Udyog Vihar (11 km)

  • Mayapuri to Kashmiri Gate (12 km)

  • CGO Complex to Surya Vihar, Faridabad (18 km)
