The Delhi Police have arrested 11 individuals for their alleged involvement in facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India by forging official documents, including Aadhaar cards and voter IDs.
Among those arrested are Aadhaar operators and tech experts who allegedly used fake websites to create counterfeit documents, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) Ankit Chauhan revealed on Tuesday (24 December).
The accused reportedly assisted illegal immigrants in crossing into India via forest routes and express trains, bypassing border security measures.
"Delhi Police South have arrested five Bangladeshis and six other people. These people enter India from forest areas and head to the nearest town. There they meet a person named Sento Sheikh, who gives them a fake Aadhaar card and SIM card," Chauhan said.
"On arriving in Delhi, they get a fake birth certificate, and based on this they get a real Aadhar card. We have also busted a website which makes fake birth certificates. The operator of the website Rajat Mishra and others have been arrested," he added.
This operation came to light during an extensive verification drive launched on 11 December, following an order from the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat to crack down on illegal immigrants residing in Delhi.
As part of this drive, 175 suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were identified in outer Delhi, while 916 individuals were verified in South East Delhi by December 13. During the process, eight illegal immigrants, including six Bangladeshi nationals, were detained.
Two of the detainees, Abdul Ahad (22) and Mohammad Azizul (32), were arrested from Hazrat Nizamuddin on 10 and 12 December, respectively, for overstaying in India without valid documentation.
Both individuals were presented before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for deportation proceedings, according to Ravi Kumar Singh, DCP (South East Delhi).
