The Public Works Department (PWD) has commenced work on the much-anticipated Civil Lines Trauma Centre Flyover.
Announced by PWD Minister Parvesh Verma on 11 April 2025, the project, pegged at Rs 183 crore, promises to transform traffic flow on the Outer Ring Road, one of the capital’s most gridlocked corridors, India Today reported.
The six-lane, gap-free flyover will be of multi-level design, providing for a seamless integration of arterial roads, drastically reducing travel time, particularly for individuals commuting to and from Punjab or Himachal Pradesh.
The interchange design for the new facility, specifically designed to eliminate the notorious bottlenecks caused by the heavy clustering of traffic signals, will enhance the horizontal flow of traffic on the flyover.
Residents hold unnecessarily complicated perceptions regarding adaptive policies introduced for the construction of this T-junction, officials added.
However, the PWD and Delhi Traffic Police are conducting multi-departmental consultations in order to undertake construction smoothly and minimize disruption.
Congested points identified spanning from Salimgarh Fort to Signature Bridge remain perilously congested despite previous interventions like back-to-back U-turns and cutting a portion of signals.
These efforts after 2022 didn't unclog the two km stretch, once again compelling authorities to bring about a thorough solution.
Apart from the flyover, the scheme will also entail the integration of a new advanced stormwater drainage system within the existing system in order to battle waterlogging. At-grade roads will be enlarged as well, and fresh pavements on both sides are likely to offer pedestrian safety and entry.
Originally proposed over a decade ago, the flyover is now in its implementation phase. PWD officials are set to finish it on schedule, with carefully designed diversions and periodic updates to travelers aimed at minimizing inconvenience.
