A number of newly Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MPs who took oath in the Lok Sabha today (25 June), hailed Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of Chief Minister M K Stalin, along with other party leaders and ideologues.
While MPs across parties have went beyond the text of the oath to mention things they consider important, the DMK MPs' choice of hailing Udhayanidhi and calling him their ‘future’, especially by some who are much senior to him, attracted criticism from members and supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
They said that this was yet another indication of 'dynastic politics' in the DMK.
Dayanidhi Maran, himself the son of former union minister Murasoli Maran, (the nephew of former chief minister M Karunanidhi), who was known to be the party's man in Delhi, said, “Long live Tamil, Long live Kalaignar, Long live Periyar, Long live Anna, Long live Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin, Long live Udhayanidhi.” He ended by saying, “Don’t want NEET, Ban Neet.”
Some of the other MPs who hailed Udhayanidhi include Coimbatore MP Ganapathy Rajkumar, Vellore MP Kathir Anand (son of Water Resources minister Duraimurugan), Perambalur MP Arun Nehru (son of Municipalities minister K N Nehru), Kanchipuram MP G Selvam, Salem MP T M Selvaganapathy, Kallakurichi MP Malaiyarasan, Arani MP Tharaniventhan, and Tiruvannamalai MP CN Annadurai.
Kathir Anand said, “Long live Tamil Nadu, may DMK win, long live Thalapathy, our future Udhayanidhi.“
However, there were exceptions like T R Baalu, A Raja, and Thanga Tamil Selvan, who did not mention anything except the text of the oath.
