Former US President Donald Trump was shot while campaigning in Pennsylvania on Saturday (13 July) as he is running for presidential elections as a Republican candidate.

"I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. Much bleeding took place," Trump said on social media after being shot at by an unidentified assailant.

As two more shots followed, he crouched down by grabbing his ear. However, he got up a minute later and holding his ear in one hand, pumped another fist in the air.

"Fight! Fight! Fight!" were his words as he raised his fist. He was cheered by the crowd and then he departed in his motorcade. The Secret Service confirmed that he was safe.

"I heard about four shots and I saw the crowd go down and then Trump ducked also real quick. Then the Secret Service all jumped and protected him within a second," a Trump supporter said.

The incident makes us recall that four sitting US presidents -- Abraham Lincoln, James A Garfield, William McKinley and John F Kennedy -- have been assassinated.

Moreover, two Presidents -- Franklin D Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan -- have been injured in assassination attempts, making Trump the third.

The shooter is still unidentified and his motive is unknown. However, the Secret Service said that he had been killed. One rally attendee also died in the shooting, while two were injured.
