DRDO Successfully Test-Fires Indigenous Man-Portable Anti Tank Guided Missile In Rajasthan's Jaisalmer

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Tuesday (13 August) conducted successful test-firing of the indigenously developed Man-Portable Anti Tank Guided Missile (MP-ATGM).

The test took place at a field firing range located in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, DRDO officials said.

The MP-ATGM is a shoulder-launched missile system designed to neutralise enemy tanks and armoured vehicles.

The indigenously developed anti-tank missile is a low weight, fire and forget missile and is launched from a man portable launcher, integrated with thermal sight.

The missile has miniaturised infrared imaging seeker and advanced avionics for on-board control and guidance.

The missile performance has been proven for the maximum range in earlier test trials. 

According to the reports, the MPATGM, which is launched using a tripod, is designed for a maximum range of 2.5 km with a launch weight of less than 15 Kg.

Earlier in April, DRDO and Indian Army had conducted successful trials of the indigenous Man Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile Weapon System.

The Warhead Flight Trials were successfully conducted at the Pokhran Field Firing Range, Rajasthan on 13 April.

DRDO had said that the missile performance and warhead performance were found to be remarkable.

"Penetration trials of the Tandem Warhead System of MPATGM have been successfully completed and it is found capable of defeating modern armour protected Main Battle Tank," DRDO had said.

The ATGM system is well-equipped with day/night and top attack capability, it added.
