Tesla CEO Elon Musk has sharply criticised President Donald Trump’s latest tax and spending legislation, calling it a “disgusting abomination” in a scathing series of posts on X.
The rebuke comes just days after Musk was honoured with a farewell at the Oval Office, marking the end of his tenure as a “special government employee” overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency.
"I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore," Musk posted.
"This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it," he added.
Musk did not stop there. Taking aim at the Republican lawmakers backing the bill, he warned in another post, "In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people."
This signals a significant departure from Musk’s previous political stance.
The billionaire entrepreneur had donated over $250 million to support Trump’s re-election campaign and was once vocal in targeting Republicans not aligned closely enough with the president.
However, Musk has recently indicated a shift, stating he would contribute “a lot less” to political campaigns going forward, though he left the door open to renewed involvement if he sees "a reason".
According to a Mint report, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the criticism, saying, “The President already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill. It doesn’t change the president’s opinion. This is one big, beautiful bill and he’s sticking to it.”
Musk had earlier voiced concern over the spending package, citing increasing deficits and its implications for government efficiency.
His departure from the Trump administration was finalised shortly before his online outburst.
