Elon Musk's microblogging platform X has been testing long-form videos and is now reportedly set to launch a dedicated app for smart TVs.

Initially, the app will be available on Fire OS (Amazon) and Tizen OS (Samsung) televisions, with plans to expand to other platforms like Google TV OS and Apple tvOS.

According to a report from The Indian Express, the new X app for smart TVs is expected to launch in a week, offering features and a user interface similar to YouTube.

Elon Musk has confirmed this development in response to a user post on X.

Musk aims to position X as an alternative to YouTube, one of the most popular free video streaming platforms globally. He has also mentioned that users can use Apple AirPlay to stream videos from X to a larger screen, enhancing the viewing experience.

Since acquiring Twitter, Musk has been promoting it as an "everything" app and recently introduced native audio and video calling features.

The platform is also working on integrating payment features, allowing users to send and receive money without leaving the app.

X has introduced various features such as long-form content posting, post-editing, blue tick verification, and access to the Grok generative AI model for premium users.

A premium subscription, available at Rs 1,300 per month when subscribed from a desktop, provides an ad-free experience on the platform.
