Fadnavis Pushes For Pod Taxi Service Between Kurla And Bandra To Strengthen Last-Mile Connectivity In Mumbai’s Business District

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called for the introduction of pod taxi services in Mumbai to enhance last-mile connectivity, particularly in high-density commercial zones.

Chairing a review meeting at Sahyadri Guest House, he emphasised that urban expansion and long commuting patterns demand innovative mobility solutions alongside traditional public transport.

Fadnavis noted that the proposed pod taxi service would be especially significant for the corridor linking Kurla and Bandra railway stations, an area already witnessing mounting traffic pressure.

This service will be important in the 'Business District' between Kurla and Bandra Railway Station, he said, pointing out that the upcoming bullet train terminal and the Mumbai High Court’s presence would further add to commuter volumes.

He emphasised that pod taxis could provide citizens with seamless, delay-free travel options in the future.

The Chief Minister directed that the city’s planned single-card payment system, which will integrate all modes of public transport, must also include pod taxi services.

He added that the Kurla and Bandra station areas should be redeveloped with pod taxi infrastructure in mind.

Police housing currently located near Kurla station should be shifted within the same vicinity to make space available, he suggested, while buildings within the Bandra Kurla Complex ought to be linked directly to stations through the new system.

Highlighting the commercial importance of the district, Fadnavis insisted on maintaining world-class service standards. He also urged that innovative uses be found for existing skywalks outside stations to complement the project.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee, and Additional Chief Secretaries Sanjay Sethi and Asim Kumar Gupta.
