Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the eighth Pre-Budget Consultation meeting with stakeholders and representatives from trade unions on Monday (6 January) in New Delhi.
The meeting was held as part of preparations for the Union Budget 2025-26, scheduled to be presented on 1 February 2025.
The discussions aimed to gather insights from trade unions regarding their expectations and concerns for the upcoming budget. This consultation is part of the government’s annual tradition of engaging with diverse sectors to ensure inclusive and effective policy-making.
The Ministry of Finance shared details of the meeting on social media, stating, "Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. @nsitharaman chairs the eighth Pre-Budget Consultation with the stakeholders and representatives from the trade unions in connection with the upcoming Union Budget 2025-26, in New Delhi."
The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, along with senior officials, including the Finance Secretary, Secretaries from the Department of Economic Affairs and the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), and representatives from the Labour Ministry.
The Budget 2025-26 is expected to address critical economic challenges and outline measures to promote growth, job creation, and investments.
It will be Finance Minister Sitharaman’s eighth budget presentation, marking another milestone in her tenure.
Earlier, Sitharaman conducted consultations with stakeholders from the financial sector and capital markets as part of the series of pre-budget discussions.
The Finance Ministry routinely holds such meetings with experts, economists, industry leaders, and state officials to gather diverse perspectives for the budget.
Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also interacted with eminent economists and thought leaders at the NITI Aayog premises to deliberate on the upcoming budget.
