Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has recently nominated two woman candidates from Kerala and West Bengal who despite coming from two different regions of India have shared a common history of suffering humiliation and violence at the hands of political adversaries.

Here are their brief profiles:

Prof T N Sarasu

Professor T N Sarasu hails from the Dalit community and has a background in education, having served as the principal of Victoria Government College in Palakkad.

Prof Sarasu is known for her principled stand against the misdeeds of the Student Federation of India (SFI) on campus.

In a disturbing incident, the SFI allegedly created a symbolic grave for her on campus on the day of her retirement and performed last rites, highlighting the challenges she has faced for standing up against their actions.

She has been nominated as a candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Alathur constituency in Kerala.

Rekha Patra

Rekha Patra is the BJP candidate from the Basirhat constituency in West Bengal, where the town of Sandeshkhali falls.

She is known for being one of the victims in Sandeshkhali, where she reportedly suffered at the hands of expelled Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan.

Patra's candidacy is symbolic of the BJP's focus on highlighting issues of law and order and women's safety in the state, particularly contrasting with what they perceive as the apathy of the Mamata Banerjee-led government.

These nominations underscore the BJP's campaign narrative, aiming to draw attention to the plight of women like Patra and Sarasu who have faced hardships and seek change in governance.
