Six Union ministries, Commerce, Steel, Heavy Industries, Mines, Coal, and Textiles, have begun moving into the newly constructed General Pool Office Accommodation (GPOA-03) building in Netaji Nagar, as part of the Central Vista redevelopment plan, the Hindustan Times reported.
Built by the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) redevelopment project, GPOA-03 will temporarily host these ministries to facilitate the demolition of Udyog Bhawan and Shastri Bhawan.
The cleared sites will make way for new Common Central Secretariat (CCS) buildings designed to consolidate key government offices.
According to an office memorandum issued by the Directorate of Estates under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the first floor of GPOA-03 will house the Commerce Ministry, the second will accommodate the Commerce, Steel, and Heavy Industries ministries, the third will include offices for Steel, Heavy Industries, Mines, and Coal, while the fourth and fifth floors will host Mines, Coal, and Textiles.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Kartavya Bhawan-3, the first of the 10 planned CCS buildings, in August this year. Once all ten are operational, all major ministries will function from these integrated administrative blocks.
As part of the broader Central Vista project, which includes the new Parliament building, a Central Conference Centre, and new ministry complexes, several departments, including Home, External Affairs, Finance, and Health, have already relocated to their designated Kartavya Bhawans.
The government expects all 10 secretariat buildings to be functional by 2026, with the Prime Minister’s residential complex targeted for completion by 2027.
Meanwhile, the North and South Blocks are being converted into the Yuga Yugeen Bharat National Museum, envisioned as the world’s largest, with work on the North Block already underway.
