Gujarat: Ahmedabad Crime Branch Deports 15 Bangladeshis Immigrants, Set To Expel 35 More By March

The Gujarat police's Ahmedabad Crime Branch has successfully deported 15 Bangladeshi immigrants and is set to deport 35 more by March, news agency ANI reported citing Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bharat Patel.

Crackdown on Illegal Immigration

In 2024, the Crime Branch conducted a combing operation in Ahmedabad, leading to the detention of 50 Bangladeshi nationals, including a minor girl, from the Chadola Lake area. 

Investigations revealed that these individuals were in possession of fake Indian documents, such as Aadhar cards, and were linked to a human trafficking ring that exploited women and minor girls for prostitution.

Further probes confirmed their Bangladeshi citizenship, prompting the authorities to initiate deportation proceedings.

On 1 February, 15 illegal immigrants were deported to Bangladesh, with the Bangladeshi embassy verifying their nationality.

The deportation of the remaining 35 individuals is expected to be completed by March 2025.

Human Trafficking and Financial Links to Bangladesh

ACP Bharat Patel stated that trafficked women were being exploited, and funds generated from illegal activities were being transferred to Bangladesh under the pretext of trade.

Authorities are now intensifying investigations into the trafficking network and financial transactions linked to Bangladesh.

Delhi and Mumbai Police Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Foreign Nationals

Meanwhile, in Delhi, the Dwarka district police arrested 16 individuals, including five Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Mohd Sharif (54), Najrul Shiekh (50), Parveen (25), and two children.

The Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) has ordered their deportation, and they have been sent to detention centers.

In Mumbai, on 7 February, the RCF police arrested seven Bangladeshi citizens who had been illegally residing in Chembur’s Mahul village for the past five years.

The arrested individuals include three men and four women, according to Mumbai Police.
