Union Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh and Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, are set to lay the foundation for a comprehensive Rs 282 crore infrastructure initiative along the Gurugram–Jaipur stretch of National Highway-48 (formerly NH-8).

The ceremony will unfold at Apparel House in Sector 44, Gurugram, according to a Hindustan Times report.

Designed to unclog traffic and bolster commuter safety, the project comprises four new flyovers at Pachgaon Chowk, Rathiwas, the vicinity of Hero Company in Dharuhera, and Sahalawas.

In addition, the scheme includes the upgrade of a 58.8 km stretch, with 2.26 km of newly built service roads, 7.2 km of robust Pavement Quality Concrete roads, and reinforcement of nearly 31 km of existing carriageways.

To mitigate waterlogging, a key concern in the region, the plan outlines the construction of 18.05 km of sturdy RCC drains and the covering and strengthening of 40.64 km of open drains.

Rainwater harvesting structures will be installed every 500 metres to recharge groundwater.

In terms of safety enhancements, motorists will benefit from 32 additional entry and exit points, 2,475 new signboards, 800 delineators, nearly 30,000 road studs, 34 traffic impact attenuators and three high-mast lights. To green the corridor, 15,000 trees will be planted along the route.

Pedestrians are not forgotten in this overhaul: nine contemporary foot overbridges will rise at Shikohpur, Manesar (near the NSG Camp), Binola, Rathiwas, Malpura, Jaisinghpur Khera, Sidhrawali, Kharkhara and Khajuri, at a cost of Rs 15 crore.

These will feature ramps and stairways to cater to senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, and even two-wheeler users; ample lighting will ensure safety during the night.
