As relentless rains batter southern Tamil Nadu, including Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, and Tenkasi, thousands of residents are grappling with dire conditions.

According to an Indian Express (IE) report, villages are submerged, presenting severe challenges for residents in accessing essential resources like food, water, and power.

The unfolding catastrophe has transformed into a logistical nightmare, impeding rescue missions due to flooded roads and narrow streets.

In Thoothukudi town, several streets are still flooded, complicating relief efforts despite a reduction in rainfall.

A unique facet of this crisis is the continuous flow of water, complicating rescue operations and leaving residents stranded due to unavailability of transportation.

The delay in supplying essentials further exacerbates the already challenging circumstances.

Several villages, like Murapanadu, Alwarkarkulam, Agaram, Vallanadu and Naanalkadu in Srivaikuntam taluk, have been plunged into darkness for over three days now, IE reported.

As many as ten people have been killed so far due to the heavy rains in southern parts of the State.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard have been engaged in rescue operations across the rain-affected districts.

Local residents cited in the IE report said that heavy rainfall has resulted in severe loss to crops and drains.
