The Union Home Ministry has asked the Tamil Nadu government to take appropriate action against Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Davidson Devasirvatham in the fake passport scam that occurred during his tenure as Madurai Police Commissioner.

This comes a day after his transfer as Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) to Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters).

Speaking at length about Devasirvatham, in the days after the Coimbatore blast, Annamalai said that he suspected the hand of the Intelligence Department in the Lavanya suicide case in Thanjavur (Lavanya had written in her dying declaration that she was being forced to convert by nuns from her school).

He also recalled the ‘Passport Scam’ in which over 200 ineligible people, mostly Christians, were issued passports in Madurai, with the help of a Chennai based travel agency owned by Devasirvatham’s wife.

While the High Court gave a clean chit to Devasirvatham, it commended Annamalai for bringing the scam to light.
