Telangana Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao announced that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for Phase-2 (Part B) of the Hyderabad Metro Rail are nearing completion.
They will soon be placed before the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) Board for review, followed by state government approval and submission to the Centre, according to an IANS report.
He stated that the DPRs for three key corridors, Jubilee Bus Station (JBS)-Medchal (24.5 km), JBS-Shamirpet (22 km), and Shamshabad-Future City (40 km) are in the final stages.
Simultaneously, the state awaits the Centre’s nod for Phase-2 (Part A), comprising five corridors stretching 76.4 km, with an estimated cost of Rs 24,269 crore.
All five proposed corridors under Part-A of Phase-2 will be the extension of three corridors of the first phase, according to the Chief Secretary. Daily ridership is projected to reach 7.96 lakh by 2028 under the new phase.
Phase-1, covering 69 km across three dense corridors, was constructed at Rs 22,148 crore and remains the world’s largest metro project under Public Private Partnership (PPP), currently serving around 5 lakh commuters daily.
Ramakrishna Rao, who assumed office on 30 April, inspected the Old City Metro Corridor along with HAML MD N V S Reddy. He reviewed the 7.5 km stretch from MGBS to Chandrayangutta and expressed satisfaction with road expansion and demolition works that had long been delayed.
The Metro MD briefed him on the relocation of entangled utility lines, stating, that despite narrow, congested roads, demolition was proceeding systematically to minimise inconvenience to the public.
Reddy assured that around 105 religious, historical, and sensitive structures along the route were being protected. The Chief Secretary commended officials for effectively addressing challenges and promised swift fund release to speed up work.
He urged caution in safe demolition and debris clearance, preventing any untoward incident.
