Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has unveiled plans to extend the Hyderabad Metro Rail to Medchal and Shameerpet, enhancing transport options for the city’s northern outskirts.
Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) Managing Director NVS Reddy announced that the CM has directed officials to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the new corridors.
As a New Year gift to North Hyderabad residents, the CM approved two key metro corridors: Paradise-Medchal (23 km) and JBS-Shameerpet (22 km). These projects will form part of Metro Rail Phase-2 Part-‘B’ and will be submitted to the Central government for approval.
The Paradise-Medchal corridor will span 23 km, connecting Tadband, Bowenpally, Suchitra Circle, Kompally, and Kandlakoya near the Outer Ring Road (ORR) exit. The JBS-Shameerpet route, covering 22 km, will pass through Tirumalagiri, Lothukunta, Alwal, Bollaram, and Hakimpet.
During a high-level meeting, the CM emphasised the urgency of fast-tracking the DPRs, instructing completion within three months for state government review. Like Phase-2 ‘A,’ this extension will be a joint venture between the Central and state governments.
HAML MD NVS Reddy confirmed that work on the DPRs has already commenced, marking a significant step in improving connectivity for North Hyderabad residents.
