The long-anticipated road widening works along the proposed Hyderabad Metro Rail corridor from MGBS to Chandrayangutta have picked up significant momentum, with authorities pressing ahead despite the challenges posed by dense urban surroundings, The New Indian Express reported.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) managing director NVS Reddy confirmed that the alignment for this critical stretch has been carefully designed to be optimal while minimising the number of affected properties.

He noted that daily review meetings with engineering and revenue officials are ensuring close monitoring of the progress.

“Initially, we have estimated that around 1,100 properties would be impacted. However, through engineering redesign and realignment, we have brought that number down to about 900,” Reddy was quoted as saying.

According to HMRL, awards have already been issued for 412 properties, with demolition completed for 380 structures. Compensation to the tune of Rs 360 crore has been disbursed to owners, ensuring smoother execution of the project.

Reddy acknowledged the obstacles faced during land acquisition and demolition, stressing that the congested setting had added layers of difficulty.

“In this dense urban area, houses are closely packed, and many overhead electricity cables and utility lines pose additional complexity. We are proceeding cautiously to avoid disruptions and are carrying out works mainly at night to minimise inconvenience to the public,” he said.

Officials further revealed that a detailed action plan has been drawn up to expedite the acquisition of remaining properties and complete demolitions in a timely manner, ensuring that construction deadlines remain on track.
