India has released a new statement on Operation Sindoor, highlighting the critical role played by indigenously developed weapons and technologies in the recent cross-border precision strikes.

Launched in response to the April 2025 terrorist attack on civilians in Pahalgam, the operation was conducted without crossing the Line of Control or international boundary.

The statement emphasised that the mission was not only tactically precise but also a demonstration of India’s growing defence self-reliance.

Here are five key highlights from the government’s statement:

1. Rapid Execution with Electronic Superiority

The Indian Air Force completed its mission in just 23 minutes after successfully jamming and bypassing Pakistan’s Chinese-supplied air defence systems. The swift, precise operation reflected India’s advancements in electronic warfare and mission planning.

2. Multi-Layered Air Defence Success

Indian air defence networks, comprising both legacy platforms and indigenous systems like the Akash missile, effectively neutralised incoming threats including drones and missiles across multiple cities in Northern and Western India.

3. Precision Strikes with Loitering Munitions

India employed loitering munitions—commonly known as “kamikaze drones”—to destroy high-value enemy targets at airbases such as Noor Khan and Rahimyar Khan. The operation recorded no loss of Indian assets.

4. Private Sector Contributions Recognised

The government credited the domestic defence industry, including firms like Alpha Design Technologies, Tata Advanced Systems, and Paras Defence, for supplying critical technology and systems. The Drone Federation of India, which represents over 500 drone companies, was also acknowledged for supporting operational capability.

5. Space-Based Surveillance by ISRO

Indian satellites played a key role in real-time monitoring and coordination.

“Without satellite and drone technology, the country can’t achieve the security it now has,”the statement quotes ISRO Chairman V Narayanan as saying.

He added that at least 10 satellites were continuously active during the operation, monitoring India’s northern border and coastline.

6. Hostile Technologies Neutralised

Indian forces successfully intercepted and recovered hostile weaponry used against them, including Chinese-origin PL-15 air-to-air missiles and Turkish-made drones.
