If Destroyed Runways And Burnt-Out Hangars Look Like Victory, You’re Welcome to It: India To Pakistan At UNGA

India strongly criticised Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks at the United Nations on Friday (26 September), describing them as “absurd theatrics” that glorified terrorism, NDTV reported.

Exercising India's right of reply, Indian diplomat Petal Gahlot stated that terrorism remains “central to Pakistan’s foreign policy.”

Addressing the 80th session of the UNGA on 26 September, Sharif alleged that Pakistan faced “unprovoked aggression” from India earlier this year.

He further claimed that Pakistani forces repelled the attack with “professionalism and bravery,” asserting that multiple Indian aircraft were shot down.

In her reply, Gahlot highlighted Pakistan’s record of supporting terror groups, pointing out its protection of ‘The Resistance Front’, which carried out the Pahalgam attack, at UN, and its history of sheltering Osama bin Laden.

"No degree of drama and no level of lies can conceal the facts. This is the very same Pakistan which, at the UN Security Council on 25 April 2025, shielded ‘The Resistance Front', a Pakistani sponsored terror outfit, from the responsibility of carrying out the barbaric massacre of tourists in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir," she said.

She described Pakistan as a nation “long steeped in the tradition of exporting terrorism,” and reminded the assembly that it had harboured Osama bin Laden for years while publicly claiming to fight terrorism.

Referring to Operation Sindoor, India’s counter-response to the Pahalgam attack to avenge 26 lives, Sharif repeated his claim that Pakistani forces repelled the attack with “stunning professionalism, bravery and acumen, shooting down several Indian aircraft."

India dismissed these statements as false, noting that on 10 May, Pakistan’s military "pleaded with us directly for a cessation to the fighting" and said that pictures of the damage are available as proof.

"If destroyed runways and burnt-out hangers look like victory, as the Prime Minister claimed, Pakistan is welcome to enjoy it," Gahlot added.
