The Central government has reportedly initiated talks with major political parties in both Houses of Parliament to build consensus on the impeachment of Justice Yashwant Varma, who is facing allegations of corruption following the discovery of large quantities of unaccounted cash at his official residence in New Delhi.

As per a report by NDTV , the government is seeking signatures from party members to formally move an impeachment motion.

No FIR has been filed in the case so far, but the matter has sparked sharp reactions in Parliament, with several MPs expressing concern over the lack of immediate legal or disciplinary action.

Justice Varma, who was on deputation to the Delhi High Court at the time of the incident, was later transferred to the Allahabad High Court.

He has denied any wrongdoing and claims the cash does not belong to him.

A fact-finding committee reportedly constituted within the Supreme Court has recommended that Justice Varma’s removal be seriously considered.

The government's ongoing consultations aim to secure cross-party support before proceeding with a motion for impeachment, which under Article 124(4) of the Constitution requires a special majority in both Houses.
