United States President Donald Trump on Saturday (10 May) said that India and Pakistan had "agreed to a full and immediate" ceasefire.
"After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence," Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.
This comes as tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the 22 April terror attack in which 26 innocent people, mostly tourists, were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.
In response, India conducted strikes on terror infrastructure at multiple locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
The strikes resulted in the elimination of several high-profile terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), including Maulana Yusuf Azhar, who was wanted for the IC-814 hijacking, news agency ANI reported, citing sources.
The operation destroyed five terror camps in PoJK and four in Pakistan.
The strikes targeted individuals involved in radical indoctrination, weapons training, and the coordination of terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Following the Indian strikes, Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks on multiple Indian cities. Most of the drones and missiles were shot down by Indian air defence systems.
