India has blocked the X (formerly Twitter) handles of three state-run accounts for spreading pro-Pakistan propaganda in wake of the India-Pakistan tensions.
The government has blocked the X accounts of two Chinese propaganda media outlets Chinese communist party linked Global Times and Xinhua News.
India has also blocked X handle of Turkish public broadcaster TRT World.
Xinhua News Agency is official state news agency of China while TRT World is the public broadcaster of Turkey.
Users trying to access the X account of these state-run propaganda outlets, they get the message that the accounts have been "withheld in India in response to a legal demand".
The ban on TRT World’s X account comes after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted Turkey’s military assistance to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, which India launched in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack
The ban on Global Times comes after the Indian Embassy in China had slammed the CCP-linked publication for posting unverified content.
India also accused Xinhua News of promoting false narratives pushed by Pakistan.
“Dear Global Times News, we would recommend you verify your facts and cross-examine your sources before pushing out this kind of disinformation,” the embassy said in a post on X.
The embassy added in another post, "Several pro-Pakistan handles are spreading baseless claims in the context of #OperationSindoor, attempting to mislead the public. When media outlets share such information without verifying sources, it reflects a serious lapse in responsibility and journalistic ethics."
