Opposition leaders, victims’ families, and activists have denounced India’s upcoming Asia Cup match against Pakistan, calling it an insult to the victims of the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, reported Hindustan Times.

Aishanya, widow of Kanpur businessman Shubham Dwivedi who died in the attack, urged people to boycott the contest.

She told news agency PTI the decision was “deeply insensitive” and accused the BCCI of ignoring victims’ families.

“Their martyrdom holds no value for the BCCI. Perhaps because none of their own were lost,” she said.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj staged a protest in Delhi, burning an effigy representing Pakistani players.

He alleged, “Pakistan’s cricket players mock our widows in such a dirty, disgusting way, and we will play cricket with them. Shame on the BJP government.”

Leaders of Congress, the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) and AIMIM also criticised the match.

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar noted differing public opinions, while BJP MP Anurag Thakur clarified that India’s participation in multinational tournaments was mandatory under ACC and ICC rules.

He stressed India’s policy remained unchanged: “India won't play bilateral tournaments with Pakistan until Pakistan stops terrorist attacks on India.”
