India Sees 628 New COVID-19 Cases, Active Caseload Rises To 4,054

India reported an increase of 628 COVID-19 cases in a single day, pushing the active caseload to 4,054, according to data from the Union Health Ministry,

One new death was reported from Kerala in the previous 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The nation's total Covid case count stands at 4,50,09,248 (4.50 crore) at present.

The count of individuals who have successfully recovered from the illness has increased to 4,44,71,860 (4.44 crore), and the nationwide recovery rate is reported to be 98.81 percent, as per the data from the Health Ministry's website.

The case fatality rate stands at 1.19 percent. According to the ministry website, 220.67 crore Covid vaccine doses have been administered.

India's Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) head Dr NK Arora, informed news agency ANI that there's no current need for an extra vaccine dose against the subvariant.

"I would say prevention is required for all those who are 60 years of age or older, who are likely to have comorbidities and those who are on drugs that suppress our immunity, like cancer patients. If they have not taken precaution so far, then they are advised to take precaution; otherwise, there is no need for any additional doses," Arora said.
