The Indian Army on Wednesday (13 August) foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector, suspected to involve Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT).
Officials said the exchange of fire in Baramulla district’s Tikka Post area resulted in the death of one soldier, reported Hindustan Times.
Such an infiltration attempt is typically carried out with the support of Pakistan's Border Action Teams.
Reports suggested that BAT could have supported the attempt with a “strike by terrorists” in the Area of Responsibility of 16 Sikh LI (09 Bihar Advance Party) under Police Station Uri.
According to an NDTV report, As Indian soldiers retaliated to the infiltration attempt, a gunfight broke out and a soldier succumbed to his injuries.
The infiltration attempt was foiled, but the intruders took advantage of the bad weather and managed to escape.
This comes a day after another soldier, Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, died while on operational duty along the Line of Control in Baramulla district.
The Army has heightened vigilance along the LoC ahead of Independence Day amid repeated infiltration attempts.
Mourning the loss of Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, the Indian Army's Chinar Corps said in a post on X on Tuesday, "Chinar Corps deeply regret the loss of the precious life of Braveheart Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, while performing operational duty along the Line of Control in Baramulla district. Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolence and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family."
