In a positive development for connectivity in the Northeast, the Indian Railways has achieved a significant milestone in Nagaland’s railway network by conducting the first trial run of a freight train equipped with Multi-Unit (MU) locomotives.

This trial took place on the Shokhuvi-Molvom railway section, part of the Dhansiri-Zubza new line project, enhancing railway connectivity in Nagaland.

"Milestone for regional connectivity in Northeast!  The first-ever goods train trial run on the Shokhuvi-Molvom section in Nagaland has been successfully conducted. This will enhance logistics, improve connectivity, and boost economic opportunities for the region," Indian Railways said in a post on X.

The trial, conducted on Tuesday, marks a key step toward commissioning the 15.419 km railway stretch.

The section is expected to be ready in the coming months.

According to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the freight train arrived at Molvom railway station at around 6 pm, Assam Tribune reported.

The new railway station at Molvom is set to become Nagaland’s third major railway hub, following Dimapur and Shokhuvi.

This development is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity.

With this successful trial, freight and passenger connectivity in the state is set to improve.

It is expected to create new economic opportunities and increase accessibility across Nagaland.

The Dhansiri-Zubza railway project aims to strengthen Nagaland’s transport infrastructure. It will connect remote areas in the state with major railway networks.
