Indian Railways is accelerating the deployment of its advanced Kavach 4.0 automatic train protection system across key routes to enhance safety and operational efficiency.

Kavach 4.0 is an upgraded, technology-driven solution designed to prevent accidents and ensure smooth train operations by providing an additional layer of safety and control.

"The implementation of Kavach 4.0 by Indian Railways across its key routes is a broader initiative to modernise its infrastructure and improve safety standards," officials stated.

The system incorporates several advanced components, including Station Kavach, which integrates information from Loco Kavach and signalling systems to guide locomotives, and RFID tags, installed along tracks at regular intervals, to monitor train location and direction.

Indian Railways has identified approximately 1,966 route kilometers (RKM) from Malda Town to Dibrugarh in the Northeast Frontier Railway zone for the implementation of Kavach 4.0. Locomotives equipped with older versions of Kavach will be upgraded to the latest version as part of the initiative.

A press release highlighted the system's potential to minimize human error and prevent accidents. "By leveraging technology such as Kavach 4.0, the connectivity system will ensure smoother operations, minimizing human error and most importantly preventing accidents," the statement read.

The rollout of Kavach 4.0 is part of a larger plan to modernise the railway network and enhance safety measures nationwide.
