As India is continuing to maintain military readiness despite relative calm along the Pakistan front after Operation Sindoor, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing to launch an earth observation satellite that can see through clouds and at night — reinforcing New Delhi’s surveillance capabilities, NDTV reported.

Scheduled for launch on Sunday at 5.59 am from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, the radar image satellite will be launched into orbit on board the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).

PSLV-C61 marks the 63rd flight of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle and the 27th using the PSLV-XL configuration.

In the 101st launch of a big rocket by ISRO, the 1,696-kilogram EOS-9 radar imaging satellite will be stationed over 500 kilometres above the Earth's surface into a Sun Synchronous Polar Orbit (SSPO).

Built at ISRO’s UR Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru, EOS-9 is fitted with a C-band synthetic aperture radar, allowing high-res imaging even in low-light and all-weather scenarios.

EOS-9 will join India’s existing fleet of over 57 satellites, including four radar satellites that were instrumental in border monitoring after the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack and India's military response as part of Operation Sindoor.

EOS-9 offers critical improvements over Cartosat-3, which lacks night-operating capability.

Earlier this week, ISRO chairman V Narayanan had said that at least 10 satellies are active 24x7 to safeguard India’s vast coastline and northern border.

"At least 10 satellites are working round-the-clock to ensure the safety and security of the country. The nation has to monitor its 7,000-km seashore areas and the entire northern part. Without satellite and drone technology, the country can't achieve that," he said.
