India's Strategic Diplomacy: After Russia, Prime Minister Modi To Visit War-Torn Ukraine Next Month

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to Kyiv next month, marking his first visit to the war-torn country since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022.

The visit, which is still in the works, is expected to take place in the third week of August, most likely on 23 August, Wion reported citing diplomatic sources.

This comes a month after PM Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy.

Earlier this month, PM Modi visited Moscow to attend annual India-Russia summit, where he met President Putin and discussed, among other things, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Speaking to President Putin at the Kremlin, PM Modi said: "Your Excellency, let's take war, any conflict or terrorist acts: any person who believes in humanity feels pain when people die, and especially when innocent children die. When we feel such pain, the heart simply explodes."

Earlier this year, after PM Modi took oath of office for the third term, Zelenskyy has called PM Modi and invited him to visit his country.

This comes amid high level of diplomatic exchanges between India and Ukraine in July.

EAM Jaishankar and Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and NSA Ajit Doval and his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Yermak held telephonic talks.
