Travis Head's exceptional century, and his catch to dismiss Rohit Sharma in the previous innings, led to Australia defeating India in the final of the ICC Men's World Cup 2023. This was the Australian men's team's sixth World Cup title.

India was dismissed for 240 runs. Australia chased down the target comfortably in 43 overs.

When Australia were 47-3 within 10 overs, it raised the tantalising possibility of India making a comeback in the game. However, a partnership of more than 150 runs between Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne put the game well beyond India.

This is India's ninth defeat in the knockout stage of an ICC event since they won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.
