Poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor has slammed the ongoing narrative of Rahul Gandhi's revival after Lok Sabha elections, drawing a stark comparison with the late prime minister and Congress leader Indira Gandhi's performance.

Kishor pointed out that Indira Gandhi's worst-ever performance as the leader of the Congress was far better than what party has got under Rahul Gandhi's leadership in the recently held Lok Sabha elections.

In an interview with News24, when asked if Congress has revived by winning 99 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, Kishor said, "No, it hasn't happened at all. Let me give you some context. Many people think that the Congress party has revived".

"Let me share a statistic with you: when Indira Gandhi was the leader of Congress, even in her lifetime’s worst defeat in 1977, Congress won 154 seats. Today, Rahul Gandhi is the leader of Congress, and under his leadership, in his lifetime’s biggest victory, Congress has won just 99 seats. You should understand the difference: Indira Gandhi’s performance with 154 seats was considered her greatest defeat, while 99 seats under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership is being seen as a victory or revival," he said.

"This shows that Rahul Gandhi has a long way to go before he is seen as a powerful political force in India," the poll strategist added.

Asked about if Rahul Gandhi was "PM Material", Kishore said, "Whether Rahul Gandhi has what it takes is something that two groups of people need to decide. The Congress members have to decide if he has the ability to lead Congress; it’s clear that they believe he does. But whether he has the ability to lead the nation is something the people of this country need to decide, and in my understanding, he still has a long road ahead".
