Indore is soon going to enter a new phase in urban transportation as the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has granted the much-anticipated safety clearance for the city’s first metro line, The Free Press Journal reported.
With this approval in place, the commercial rollout is expected soon, though authorities are yet to announce an official launch date.
According to reports, Madhya Pradesh government is aiming to commence operations soon, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to flag off the inaugural ride.
If confirmed, this would mark a significant milestone, making Indore the first city in the state to commence metro services.
Bhopal is expected to follow with its own metro operations by May or June.
The initial operational stretch spans 5.9 km on the Yellow Line of Indore Metro's Super Priority Corridor, running from Gandhi Nagar to TCS Square.
The corridor features five fully-equipped stations, each outfitted with elevators, escalators, ticketing counters, and other essential commuter amenities.
Once operations begin, metro trains will halt at every station every two minutes, ensuring swift and efficient travel.
To complement the metro’s reach, the state government has planned e-bus linkages from key urban nodes such as Radisson Square and Gandhinagar, offering last-mile connectivity for passengers.
This multimodal approach is aimed at enhancing access and encouraging public adoption of the new transport system.
The fare structure will start at Rs 20, with officials indicating that promotional discounts are likely to be introduced in the early phase to incentivise ridership.
Train frequency will vary between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on commuter demand.
