A key six-lane flyover connecting Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road to Kondapur is now expected to be ready by this month—nearly a year after its original deadline was missed.
Constructed under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), the flyover is expected to be inaugurated next month by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
Once operational, the 1.2-km bi-directional structure is set to decongest the busy Gachibowli junction while improving direct connectivity between Hitec City and the financial district.
Commuters will enter the flyover via a ramp on the ORR and exit at Street No. 2, Gachibowli—bypassing the congested junction altogether.
The flyover terminates roughly 300 metres before the Zilla Parishad School.
Outbound traffic from the city can also directly access the ORR using another ramp of the flyover.
According to GHMC, the construction work is in its final phase.
Officials had earlier cited delays in utility shifting by TSSPDCL as the main reason behind the extended timeline.
“Despite paying Rs 2.78 crore to it, the utility shifting was delayed. Finally, GHMC commissioner K. Ilambarithi had to intervene and get the issue resolved,” an official from the corporation was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.
According to GHMC data, the peak hour traffic at the Gachibowli junction was 9,806 passenger car units (PCU)/hour in 2019, and is projected to touch 17,711 PCUs/hour by 2036.
The Rs 178 crore project is being executed by Venkat Rao Infra Projects.
