US President Donald Trump has announced that Israel has agreed to the “necessary conditions” for a 60 day ceasefire in Gaza, raising hopes of a breakthrough to halt months of deadly conflict, BBC reported.
During the proposed truce, “we will work with all parties to end the War,” Trump stated on Truth Social, though he did not specify the conditions involved.
“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal. I hope… that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” he added.
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, confirmed that Israel was “absolutely” ready for a ceasefire, but uncertainty remains over whether Hamas will accept the terms.
Danon accused Hamas of “playing hardball,” warning:
“We are putting pressure on Hamas, and if they will not come to the table, the only option we will have to bring back the hostages, is to apply more military pressure. The war will end when the hostages are back home.”
Around 50 Israeli hostages are still held in Gaza, with at least 20 believed to be alive.
Trump’s remarks come ahead of his upcoming meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which he has vowed to be “very firm.”
The US President said he believes Netanyahu wants to end hostilities, adding, “I think we’ll have a deal next week.”
Meanwhile, negotiations remain fragile.
A senior Hamas official had reportedly said earlier that mediators have stepped up efforts for a new ceasefire and hostage release, although talks are stalled.
Israel insists any lasting peace requires Hamas’s complete dismantling, while Hamas continues to call for a permanent truce and full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
