The Noida International Airport, popularly known as Jewar Airport, is nearing completion in Gautam Buddha Nagar, with one runway and a terminal ready for operations, News 24 reported.

Developed by Zurich International AG and overseen by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), the project aims to meet global aviation standards and stay on schedule as mandated by the authority.

The airport marks a milestone in Indian aviation as the country’s first 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) project in this sector.

Once fully completed, the airport will feature six runways and six terminals, with a projected annual capacity of 225 million passengers.

This development is expected to ease the burden on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which is currently operating at full capacity with 80 million passengers annually.

The airport is located just 700 metres from the Yamuna Expressway and well-connected to major road networks including the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, Lucknow–Agra Expressway, Ganga Expressway, and Meerut–Prayagraj Expressway.

According to reports, the airport will be connected with rapid rail, Noida Metro, Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system, and an underground rail link to the Amritsar–Kolkata corridor.

The UP government acquired 6,000 hectares for the airport without legal hurdles or opposition, setting a precedent for smooth land acquisition.

Authorities are fast-tracking key projects to improve access to Noida International Airport:

Bhangel Elevated Road (5.5 km) to ease Noida–Greater Noida traffic, ready by July 2025.

DND–Faridabad–Ballabhgarh Link to connect with Delhi-Mumbai Expressway; land acquired, work begun.

Greenfield Expressway: 8.5 km elevated stretch approved on the Faridabad–Jewar route.

Ganga Expressway Link: 76 km expressway planned from Bulandshahr to Jewar with Rs 1,000 crore funding.

Once operational, Jewar Airport is expected to redefine air travel in India, serving as a key gateway for both domestic and international aviation.
