Jewar Airport Set To Become Asia’s Largest, Operations To Begin In April: Civil Aviation Minister

Jewar International Airport, poised to become Asia’s largest, will commence regular operations from April, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu informed the Rajya Sabha.

Speaking during Question Hour, he highlighted the enthusiasm among airlines to operate from the airport, which is expected to significantly boost global connectivity.

"Jewar airport is emerging as the country's and Asia's biggest airport. We have conducted the validation flight in December at the airport," the minister stated, assuring that work is progressing as per schedule.

"Everything is going according to timelines and very soon in the month of April we will see regular operations starting from Jewar-Noida international airport," he told the Upper House.

Jewar Airport, strategically located near the Noida Expressway, is set to become a major hub, facilitating seamless road and air connectivity. The minister noted that major airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, are eager to commence operations, reinforcing India’s aviation growth trajectory. "...

The airport lies right next to Noida expressway and we will see connectivity of roads happening very soon," he added.

The discussion also touched upon India’s ambitious regional aviation initiatives. Naidu hailed the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme as "revolutionary", confirming its extension for another ten years.

The scheme, aimed at enhancing air connectivity in smaller towns, has played a crucial role in making air travel affordable.

Additionally, the government plans to develop 100 new airports across India, a move set to reshape the country’s aviation landscape. Responding to a query on Kushinagar Airport, the minister assured, "It would be opened soon and we are working towards it."
