At least ten people were injured in a grenade blast near the Tourism Reception Centre in Srinagar on Sunday (3 November) afternoon.
The explosion reportedly took place in a crowded area that hosts a Sunday market.
The grenade was hurled towards Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel near the TRC on Residency Road, Indian Express reported citing police sources.
However, the grenade apparently missed the target and hit a street vendor’s cart, resulting in injuries to six people.
The injured were immediately rushed to a hospital.
Following the grenade attack, a joint team of J&K Police and paramilitary forces cordoned off the area to try and nab those behind the attack.
The stretch of Residency Road from the TRC to Lal Chowk hosts Srinagar's Sunday Market.
The grenade blast, first such incident in Srinagar in over a year, comes a day after security forces eliminated a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander in an encounter in in J&K's capital city.
The slain terrorist, identified as Usman, was killed in a gunfight with the security forces in the Khanyar locality of Srinagar.
In the encounter, four security forces personnel —two from the J&K Police and two from the CRPF— also sustained injuries.
