The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Shagun Parihar has won in Kishtwar in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly election by a margin of over 500 votes.
Notably, Shagun Parihar comes from the family of a BJP leader, killed by Hizbul Mujahideen in 2018. The 29-year-old Shagun defeated the National Conference candidate.
Her father Ajit Parihar and uncle Anil were killed by terrorists near their home before the panchayat elections. Shagun's name was declared in the first list.
The BJP first won in Kishtwar in 2014. Earlier, NC used to win there most of the time. In total, the BJP is set to win 29 seats, all in the Jammu region.
However, the NC-Congress alliance is set to form government in the Union Territory with Omar Abdullah as the Chief Minister, as Farooq Abdullah announced.
